卷板機是一種將金屬板材卷彎成筒形、弧形或其它形狀工件的通用設備，構簡單、重量輕、易于制造維修、投資少。此性能被大寬度的使用正在造物、鍋爐蒸汽、化工、非金屬構造及機器打造等事業上。具有卷制O型、U型、多段R等不同形狀板材的功能。根據三點成圓的原理，利用工件相對位置變化和旋轉運動使板材產生連續的塑性變形，以獲得預定形狀的工件。由于結構簡單，性能可靠，造價低廉，已經廣泛用于鍋爐、造船、石油、木工、金屬結構及其它機械制造行業。

卷板機按照工作狀況分為：冷卷和熱卷兩種。工作能力是指板材在冷態下，按規定的屈服極限卷制最大板材厚度與寬度時最小卷筒直徑的能力。當卷制板厚較大或彎曲半徑較小并超過設備工作能力時，在設備允許的前提下可采用熱卷的方法。個別不允許冷卷的板材，熱卷剛性太差，則采用溫卷的方法。
